Past Captains vs Essex Golf Union
Monday 26th June
As part of the Canons Brook Golf Club 60th anniversary celebrations, the club’s Past Captains entertained the Essex Golf Union (EGU) to a challenge match on Monday 26th June and as previously in 2013 (when we celebrated our 50th anniversary) was a most enjoyable afternoon in excellent weather conditions followed by dinner held in the traditional way of inter-club golf matches.
Fifteen of our past captains made themselves available against a well representative EGU team and earned a well won match by the tiniest of margins, but as is tradition, the match was ‘halved!’.
A special thanks go out to Robin ( Course Manager ) and his team for getting the course in such lovely condition, together with Peter ( Clubhouse Manager ) and his team, who managed the day to their normal high standards, presenting an excellent meal being much enjoyed by all.
A final huge thanks goes to Alan Howick for his efforts in arranging and managing the event throughout the day.
Dialogue between members of both teams suggested that this popular match could be played on a more regular basis as opposed to ever decade!
The club will extend an invitation to the EGU to consider for next year.
