The maps below show the location of the project which will be on the far side of the practice area across a total area of 2.39 acres. A mixed native woodland has been chosen which will include English Oak, Beech, Scotspine, Cherry, Rowan, Sweet Chestnut, Hazel and Hawthorn. The project will increase the size of the woodland currently in place and provide an extension to what is already in place. The project is expected to provide 700 tonnes of Carbon capture which will in turn reduce the clubs carbon footprint but also adding to the biodiversity of the clubs’ land.
Over a period of 5 days the project will use the services of the ‘Green Task Force’ who are made up of a team of veterans from across the Northwest. The GTF focuses on providing positive pathways through either recovery, training or employment. The Mersey Forest understands how connecting people with nature can really benefit people's health and wellbeing and regularly organises activities, through Cheshire Natural Health Service, to use the area's green space to support people's health.
For the Green Task Force, working outside, alongside fellow veterans, helps their wellbeing, and provides a social setting where members are able to share their experiences, both good and bad, with others who understand their background.
‘The project will allow Prestbury Golf Club to add to the ancient woodland already in place and further enhance the natural aspects provided by the golf course. The project will provide a number of benefits to both the natural habitats for wildlife to thrive but also further reduction in the club’s carbon footprint.’ (Stuart Finlay, General Manager).
The map of the project will also be displayed around the clubhouse. The delivery of the trees is expected next week but there will be minimal disruption to members due to the location of the project. We will update the members via the club newsletter and social media.
