December Week One
Runners, Jumpers and Tributes

Well what a first week of December that was, with numerous seasonal events going on. Too many pictures and other bits to include, so watch the vid whilst reading what its all about with a glass of something.

The sad passing of Shane McGowan inspired a couple of Fairy Tale of New York tributes, one at the ladies lunch from Helen Murray, which I am sure eclipsed the captured Yuletide Mug rendition!

Anyway here’s what’s been going on…

Tuesday saw Admiral Maguire set sail with his crew on the annual voyage to Swinley Forest, with heavy fines for those not suitable dressed in Christmas jumpers and tour no1s, for lunch. Thanks to models Steve Jones, Peter Goddard and Gary Norman.

Whilst this away trip was going on, the Ladies had their Christmas lunch after a morning festive nine hole comp won by Heidi Patton with an impressive 23 points.

Post golf kicked off with the ladies enjoying a festive kir royal, in the front bar, whilst partaking in a guess a the baby/toddler comp - there was a lot of guessing going on especially with a few wild card photos.

A delicious Christmas lunch was served in the cube room and Chef Andrew developed a special starter for the ladies, gin cured salmon with pickled cucumber followed by traditional turkey and ham.
The entertainment included a fun Christmas quiz and Christmas Carol sing a-long, led by the ladies choir. Helen Murray the treated all to a Shane Macgowan tribute singing a heartfelt rendition of “Fairytale of New York”

The fun was topped off with the ladies enjoying an espresso martini expertly mixed by Amy.
The Ladies have asked to express their thanks to Tony, Amy, Mercy and all the house team and Chef Andrew and his team for a wonderful lunch and a special thanks to Chloe Howkins for joining in with the ladies choir.

On to Wednesday eve and the comedy night took place, in the cube room. Superbly compared by the ever merciless Dave Lewis, the evening kicked off with an excellent curry supper before the first act, Bennet Kavanagh, entertained with an operatic routine - very different and very funny.

Next up was Andrea Hubert with a great set, and some pretty edgy stuff, before political satirist Rosie Holt closed the evening. Maybe not the best room for Rosie’s material but still very funny and a great value night. (Endorsed by the presence of Member for Finance, Ally Dunn - getting a bit of a roast from Dave in the clip)

Thanks to Member for Social, Gary Norman for organising and “Yes!” we do want it again next year.

Thursday was The Chairman, Bill Carey-Evans, Yuletide mug event. A morning eighteen holes followed by a traditional Christmas lunch and long afternoon. The newsroom understands the origins of this event were the opportunity to spend any of your start of year bar card balance less you lose it at end of year. We do struggle to see anyone present at this event, however, who would most likely not have spent their initial levy by mid Feb!

Hope you like the slightly different format to this weeks round up

That’s All Folks!
