Christmas Shotgun Raises £1000 for St Wilfrid’s Hospice
By 7am on Sunday the 10th December one of Santa’s Elves (Lady Captain Sue Norris) was already setting up stall for a Club Christmas Raffle. The raffle was organised by Sue and the Ladies section to compliment the fund raising efforts of the Captain’s Charity Shotgun being held that day.
And having put a call out for donations, the large array of wine and spirits gathered was an emphatic demonstration of members generosity and alcoholic proclivity.
A large field of participants teed off from all parts of the course in a Texas Scramble format. The weather was pretty decent for the time of year and the course had held up very well despite several days of heavy rain in the days leading up the competition. Some low scores usually emerge whenever this format is played, and so it was on this occasion.
The winners, with a Net 55 (Gross 70), were Matt Hollands, Brian McIntyre, Marilyn and John Boniface. Second place, on countback, with a Net 56 (Gross 66) went to Pete O’Neill, Donna Myles, Caroline Angella and Jon Gross. In third place, also with a Net 56 (Gross 67) were Will Wilkinson, Martin Andrews, John Huston and Neil Ayling.
Congratulations to all the winners, and huge thanks to all those who contributed to the raffle and auction of green fee vouchers for Highwoods, The Dyke and East Brighton.
