The Heavens Opened For The First Match Of The Year
Mens Friendly Match vs Royal Worlington and Newmarket Golf Club
On Sunday 10th March 2024 the opening men’s friendly match of the season was played away against Royal Worlington and Newmarket Golf Club
The golfing gods rained heavily throughout the morning which meant for testing conditions.
In the first match Barry Peak and took on Worlington’s match manager Chris Brown (also of Newmarket fame!). In a closely fought contest Chris birdied the last hole to win 2 up. Newmarket’s second pair of Peter Nightingale an Malcolm Simmons wend down to an in form paid losing 3&2 in the third match President Andy Wylie and Bod Chamberlain were beaten by Andy’s nemesis, Roger Dalzell, 4&3.. Dave Jewell and Dale Cole salvaged some pride by beating Worlington’s new Captain Tim Greet.
Despite the 3-1 loss all participants enjoyed a splendid lunch of rare Roast Beef, Yourkshire pudding, Roast potatoes and a selection of vegetables, followed by treacle tart and, for some, bread and butter pudding as well!
Despite the disappointing overall result, the matches were played in great spirit.
