On this occasion we were greeted by a much warmer spring day. The sun came out and most were in short sleeves by the end of the round.
Following a brunch of scrambled eggs and smoked salmon the matches commenced off 2 tees. Meaning that we should all be finished in close order.
In the first match Barry Peak and took on Flempton’s captain Dan and his partner JJ. It proved to be a high quality game with Barry’s partner and debutant Dominic proving to be the start performer. In a close game Newmarket prevailed 2&1. Vice-Captain James and his partner Magnus Ahlberg also came through a close games winning 2 &1. Newmarket’s fortunes in Matches 4 and 5, starting off the 4th tee did not fare so well with Mark Conen and Tom Peak and Steve Harvey and Graham Hurrell succumbing to some excellent golf. That left the final match on the course. Colin Bradman and Mike Morris had battled back to all square with 3 to play but were eventually beaten on the final hole, resulting in a home side 3-2 win.
The matches were played in great spirit with some excellent golf on both sides. It was great to feel the warmth on our backs and home of more good weather to come!
