This is the first year that the ‘Bobby Jones Putter’ has been played on the Saturday of the ‘Masters’. Linking the Competition with our excellent Masters Quiz Night on Wednesday, hosted by Glen Frew. GGC’s homage to the Great Bobby Jones and his Grand Slam winning putter ‘Calamity Jane’ - that we played for today.
Some say their golfing season doesn’t start till ‘Masters Week’. 102 took part in the unique Foursomes Team format - three pairs in a Team - two scores count at each hole.
Congratulations to Course Manager Paul and his team - considering the battering from Storm Kathleen - the course and Greens were in first class condition.
From the time the ‘Hooter’ sounded the wind blew, increasing in strength throughout the morning. Testimony to the excellent returned winning scores, all below 140 - in fact the winning score of 131, matched last years. PC Donald Neilson and his team collected ‘Calamity Jane’ followed by the now familiar acceptance speech from Donald.
As we queued for our themed Southern States & Spanish fare buffet lunch - (reflecting last years champion Jon Rahm), driving rain beat against the Campsie Suite windows - timing is everything.
An excellent day had by all - DBG Neilson, defending champion, had a surprise consolation prize as he watched his pick ‘I am Maximus’ romp home in the Grand National - he and PC (Paul Crilley) were last seen heading for Massimos.
