Gailes Strokeplay Championship
Saturday 22nd & Sunday 23rd June 2024
The Medal qualifier on Saturday saw four players score par or better.
A superb 68 from James McMurdo led the field. His good mate Calum McKirdy 70, Paul Richmond on 70 and Gary Murphy 71.
Lurking on 72 - defending Gailes Strokeplay and (Glasgow Matchplay Champion) Neil MacRae, 73 - Clark Nelson (Glasgow Strokeplay Champion) and on 74 John Laurie (Glasgow Seniors Champion). All to play for on Sunday.
The weather was breezier on Sunday, therefore making the old links a tougher challenge. James, Callum, Paul and John slipped off the pace all with 78s. Clark unfortunately withdrew injured, leaving Neil and Gary going head to head. Gary was keeping a close eye on Neil from the group behind ‘nip and tuck’ all the way to the 18th. As Neil returned a marvellous 70 (-1), Gary was lining up a birdie putt on the last that would take it into a play-off. It wasn’t to be and Neil had retained his title - Gailes Strokeplay Champion 2024.
