Grant Elner, smoother than a baby’s bum, took the honours with an impressive nett 69, off 5, with the GM, John Maguire, taking the scratch with a 74.
On the subject of baby’s bums, many congratulations to Mercy Ford who popped out a healthy bouncing baby boy, 8 weeks and 5 days earlier than planned, on Friday night. Chance James weighed in at a just 4lbs, both he and mum are doing well.
Thursday saw the Pro-Am and Member for Golfing Activities, Grahame Falconer, sweep a pot of £390 for his two on the 12th

The Friday roll up manged to squeeze in between the big days of ProAm and Captain’s Prize Day - and talking of Captain, Ian Gibb was joint winner alongside Mark Carpenter both with 38 points. The overall leader with the four best scores after seven weeks is Jonty Abare with total of 152. That’s a 38 average - before you try to find the calculator on your iPhone! Mark Jevons is 2nd with 150. We will have a top 10 list for next week.
So on to Saturday and the big day for The Captain and First Lady, Jen. Great weather for it and a pretty strong field. Many thanks to everyone who took part and, on behalf of everyone who did, a massive thank you to Ian and Jen for a very splendid day. Halfway point point refreshments and prezzies were very gratefully received.
A fair number of winners to mention and show
Nearest the pins went to Isobel Morgan and, for the men, Richard Arnfield. There were a number of entries on the ladies nearest the pin marker from members we have down as men. Unless a valid gender recognition certificate can be produced in your defence, the GM will be approaching you for a Captains Charity donation in the coming days.
Dave Taylor won a £350 voucher for the longest putt competition and Adrian Fawcett also holed out - harshly not counting due to it being with his “sighter” ball - although he did receive this bottle of bubbly.
There was a hole in one for Clive Shaw on the 6th - pictured here with his bottle and Tim Hutchence, who looks like he’s claiming an assist or something?
In third place with 46 points were Henry John and (absent from shot) Rhys Jones
Runners up with 47 were Lady Vice-Captain, Lucia Albrecht and Liesl Mills
Winners on the day with a spectacular 49 points - Grant Elner and Martin Lovell
IPC John Cahill took the Beat the Pro play-off
and Kara Catt took the same from the Captain’s Charity Day
Now whilst the celebrations continued late into the evening many were up early today to play the Sunday Roll-up.
David Bradley was triumphant winning with 41 points (went round in 77 I am led to believe) on count back from Paul Moran who also got 41 points and went round in 72! David got his first cut of 2 shots whilst Paul has a 2 shot further cut and now down to 5.
Miss Consistent Jan Oliver came 3rd with 36 points.
