Links vs Stowmarket Match Report
Mixed Greensomes 10th August
A mixed team of six pairs travelled to Stowmarket Golf Club on Saturday 10th August for this annual fixture which played out on a perfect afternoon for golf, with a moderate temperature and a light breeze.

The Links team ranged in handicap from 5.9 to 32.7 with a wide cross section of members from the Club signing up to play. Even so we were giving up to 14 shots in all but one of the games, which was played off level. With the opposition having home advantage this was always going to be a challenge.

The first game to finish was Ladies’ Captain Sarah Reardon partnered by Men’s Vice Captain James Greenall, standing in for Captain Barry Peak. Although giving the highest margin of 14 shots a 2 & 1 victory for the Links pair got us off to a good start.

Sarah Greenall and Luke Foulser playing second and giving 9 shots arrived at the 18th tee all square but were seen off by an Exocet of a putt from off the green by their opposition which, despite looking as if it would go off the other side of the green, hit the pin dead centre and dropped for a 2. Match lost 1 down.

With 2 of the next three matches going Stowmarket’s way a continuation of Links’ undefeated run of Mixed Matches did not look to be on the cards. However a splendid 3 & 2 win for Tony Young and Penny Hartley, both late substitutes in the team, ensured a 3-3 draw and the run continues.

A tasty post match buffet of cold meats, salad and new potatoes with a choice of desserts followed along with a great deal of dinner table banter to bring this most enjoyable of afternoons to a close.
