As ever the course presented beautifully, we had finalists from teens to grandparents and we got it all in during fine weather, before the storms that came in last night.
Congratulations to all the competitors who made it through to the day, all the staff and volunteer members who helped to make the day work so splendidly, and, lets think on - sometimes winning a trophy involves much more that just beating five rounds of opponents.
Nine trophies were played for yesterday with the Ladies Welcome and Davis Darling being re-arranged, due to finalists being in more than one comp, and the Vets Foursomes already won on default. The mens Stephensons were both played over 36 holes with the final match concluding at around 4pm. It was then all to Tom’s for a BBQ in a very convivial late summer afternoon, before the GM got the results underway. Thanks to The Captain and First Lady for making the presentations
Junior Final
The Junior final was fought between Charles Lynch and Izzy Yang with Charles winning through. Well done Charles. Also thanks to Paddy Griffith for doing such a splendid job with the Junior Section
Ladies Summer Cup
Winners were Teresa Gibson & Jane Player
…beating Lady Captain, Fiona Stewart and Suzanne Malloy
The Moore Cup
The most prestigious of the Ladies’ trophies was won by Philippa Nunn
…beating Sarah Leeson
Summer Knockout - Un Named Trophy
Congratulations Dan West who won this, beating Peter Walsh in the final
Veterans Singles
This was won by a very in form Graham Juber on the back of a recent stableford win and TopGun runner up slot
Bill Wells was the beaten finalist
Veterans Foursomes
This was not contested on the day as had already been won by Jonte Abare and Michael Flatley.
Robertson Memorial Cup
A very close contest, more than the 4&3 would suggest. All square at the turn but an eagle on 12 and birdie on 15 gave Craig Thomson and Ian Banks the cup, beating Merv Edwards and David Cafferty
Stephenson Bowl
Ten of those knocked out in the latter stages of the Stephensons competed in a stableford competition for the Stephenson Bowl.
Winner, with an impressive 44 points, was Chris Leggett
Runner up on 39 was IPC, John Cahill.
Stephenson Foursomes
Now this was the closest of all the finals, eventually being decided on the 38 hole. Many congrats to Member for Finance, Ally Dunn, and partner Colin (Tommy) Thomson on taking this from …
…an unlucky Patrick Overmeer & Rhys Jones.
Stephenson Singles
Probably the Blue Ribbon final of the day, Ed Franklin led for most of the match and is the 2024 Stephenson Singles champion.
Very well played Rob Reid who fought back valiantly, at a number of points, but could quite turn things around.
Finals Played Today - Davis Dorling
This re-arranged final was played today and won by Ally Dunn and Siobhan Gallagher beating Les Wong and Sarah Leeson
Finals Played Today - Welcome Trophy
This re-arranged final was also played today. Many congratulations to Lady Captain, Fiona Stewart who, just missing out yesterday, won today beating IPLC, Enid Hughes

Now that Finals Day is done and dusted we will acknowledge those who have triumphed during the year at our annual Presentation Supper on the evening of Friday October 18th. This is a great opportunity for those new to the Club, to put names to faces and enjoy an Autumnal supper in the company of your fellow Members. All this year's winners, some of whom are also new Members, will be awarded their relevant prizes and have their photograph taken alongside El Capitan. All members and guests are welcome - there is a sign-up sheet in on the easel board in the Front Bar.
Friday Roll-up
Elsewhere in the week and on the course things continued to happen as usual.
This weeks winner of the Friday Roll-up was Mark Jevons with 40 points which makes him the overall leader for the Max Mason Cup closely followed by Charlie Browning & Jonty Abare - four more Fridays to go.
There will be no roll-up this Friday due to the Born Too Soon charity day
Club Ace
Congratulations to Patrick Overmeer on a hole in one on 6 earlier in the week - should have saved it for the final, Patrick!
Fridays Mixed Match against the MCC
Victorious Club Captain, Ian Gibb, being presented with the match trophy which TRGC took, on home, soil 4-2. Well played team!
Beached Buggy
…and finally. We have all been made aware, on more than a number of occasions, the matter of taking care driving buggies around the course and where and where not to drive them.
The newsroom was mildly amused, therefore, to receive this anonymously sent in image of our answer to The Chuckle Brothers; seeming stranded with a buggy on the path sleepers, somewhere around the 7th maybe? So who is that in the Hugo Boss jacket and his co-pilot in the blue shirt???
That’s All Folk’s…
