Last night saw the finale of the weekly Tuesday Captain's Evenings for 2024. 129 members competed throughout the year for the Goodman Grand Prix Shield and Shaun White Trophy.
It was a close affair this year with 4 players going into the final week with a chance of silverware. With that in mind, it seemed only fitting to have Harry Provis, Jon Rowe, Leigh Bullen, and David Ord in the same group competing for each trophy.
It was a dark and gloomy evening making daylight at a premium, so much so that the 18th green was lit up by torches enabling the four to putt out at the final hole.
In the Goodman Grand Prix, David Ord had an 8-point lead which meant Harry Provis would need a minimum of 2nd place last night to earn 8 points and David Ord to fall out of the top 8. Harry Provis scored 20 points, which enabled him 2nd place on countback and David Ord didn’t feature in the top 8 places of the evening, meaning a tie resolution was needed on sequential order of points. It was Harry Provis who came out the other side as the winner on countback. Commiserations to David Ord but I’m sure he will feature again soon as his game has improved massively this season, from 24.9 in April down to today’s handicap of 20.6. Well done both!
Moving onto the Shaun White Trophy which saw Leigh Bullen having a 3-point lead over Jon Rowe going into the final round. Jon Rowe secured 18 points last night with a solid -1-par score off his +3 handicap! But Leigh Bullen bounced back with a 16-point score which meant he won the Shaun White Trophy by just one point! Again, credit to both players especially Jon who has played so solidly all year and achieved a plus 3 handicap!
In other prizes, Martin Rowe won the 100% attendance prize, I guess you have earned the title of ‘Mr Bowood’.
Kay Darling won the Ladies prize, Jordan Hewett won the Junior prize and David Goodman won the Senior prize.
Our thanks go to all members who have supported this year’s Captains Evenings with an average weekly entry of 48 players. Also to the staff who have hosted us throughout the year and Greenkeepers for maintaining the course so well while under the pressures and challenges of weather conditions this year once again.
We are not done yet though!
Next week we see the return of the infamous ‘Cross Country Golf’ which sees us all face the following format of course-
1st Tee- 8th Green (Par 4)
3rd Ladies Tee to 7th green (Par 3)
8th Ladies Tee to 3rd Green (Par 4)
4th Tee to 5th Green (Par 7)
6th Tee to 9th Green (Par 4)
1st Ladies Tee to 18th Green (Par 3)
This event can only be booked via HowDidiDo due to Health and Safety where 15-minute gaps will be installed to enable space between groups.
After next week, we will be having Group tuition sessions on Tuesday to help improve your game this coming Winter and prepare you for a successful 2025. This will also coincide with Golf/Social evenings and Social only evenings on Tuesdays. All of these will be calendared and I hope to see many of you supporting them.
Thank you all once again from us all!
