That Was the Week that Was

Bridge Afternoon
One that slipped last week’s edition was the bridge afternoon put on by Marti Trevethick for the benefit of the Lady Captain’s charity. There were ten tables and it was a great event with cards, tea (or something more suiting), prizes and a raffle.

Suspect draw on the last raffle prize where the Lady Captain, Fiona Stewarts,’ mother was the winner. We just put it down to a “Welcome to TRGC x!”

Friday Roll-up
This week there were joint winners with Rhys Jones & Mel Atkins both coming in on 38 points. There were also joint runners up slots for Bill Boucher & Top Gun with 37 points. After the cheese & biscuits, kindly supplied by the Captain, the presentation of the Max Mason Trophy was made.

Congratulations to Mark Jevons, who is the only person to have won this on more than one occasion. This is, in fact, his third success. Mark generously donated a percentage of his winnings to the Captain’s Charity.

There will be a final roll up on Friday 1st December where everyone will be reverting to playing off their current course handicaps.

A Decent Proposal
Friday night was party night, with The Club’s best kept secret, since the future of the bush on 18, happening at dinner.

Post reception drinks, 30 diners took to their seats to await a special little speech from our very own Genti. Our Barbara said afterwards she wondered what the hell he was doing…

…and it would, indeed, seem to have come as a surprise! A rather long pause, caused by total overwhelment, had the room’s collective heartbeat stutter for a while. Of course the answer was yes and the rest as they say…

Piano accompaniment to the dance played by Bex’s daughter Darcy.

666 Fun Competition
Saturday morning saw another great initiative from our Member for Golfing Activities, Grahame Flaconer, underway with the first playing of a 666 competition. Reasonably simple format being a stableford pairs comp with first six holes betterball, second six greensomes, then final six foursomes - not so simple to score the NewsRoom is led to believe. Well, proof in the pudding to that, as there was indeed a mix-up. Apologies and…

…many congratulations to Jamie Terry & Mark Carpenter winning with 43, on countback, from Adam Duncan and Darren White.

Corrected full results as follows:

1st        M Carpenter & J Terry                   43/19
2nd      A Duncan & D White                        43/18
3rd       S Deakin & R Lord                           42
4th       M Stewart & F Stewart                    40/19/13

Sunday Roll-up
Glorious morning for the 24 who took part in this mornings roll-up.

Richard Lord won with 36 on countback from John Inglis, David Ford then Anders Nielsen - all on 36. There were twos for Lordy and Maurizio.

That’s All Folks…
