Seniors Eurothon competition
Season’s finale
In a surprising eruption of national fervour, Italy scraped past long-time leaders Hungary to win the best of five Eurothon golf competition that has been running since June.

Based loosely (very loosely) on last summer’s Euro soccer finals, 14 countries were represented competing for national pride and a share of the massive prize pot.

Several teams adopted national colours for the competition and indeed the winners, pictured receiving their prize, would have been in contention to win the best-dressed team award (had there been one).

The competition commenced in June with a shotgun start Texas Scramble, followed by lunch. In subsequent rounds there was a team Stapleford, a Bowmaker, and finally a Waltz, followed by a crafty putting competition organised by Trevor Underwood.

Thanks go to Trevor and Ross for having the patience to explain the rules to the competitors before every event; to Andrew Neilan who managed the ridiculous complexity of a live leaderboard with ease; to Restaurant 19 for an excellent curry lunch but most of all to Michael Ellen, the seniors captain, who came up with the idea and delivered an event that everyone thoroughly enjoyed!

The prize-giving also included a presentation from the Seniors’ section to Jack Jones, who was also captain of team Hungary, to commemorate his remarkable golfing success in the year of his “significant birthday”.
