I would like to thank all those who helped on the day, Captain “H” for the meet and greet, Dave ‘I’ve got my contacts in and "can’t read’ Cox for aiding with the distribution of the cards and Marvellous Maggie for donating the top prize of a wonderful hamper and selling the raffle tickets as well and of course all those who purchased tickets. A couple of the original BigBird lads who were part of the birth of this competition in 2014 also donated to the fund as they were away sunning themselves in richer climes, Cheers Matt and Lee.
A special mention goes to the silent sponsor of the logo’d poppy balls, a slight change this year, if you purchased raffle tickets you received a £2.50 ball as well as your tickets and that person is the one and only Graham Tovey, aka ’G-Spot’. The balls leftover were re-packaged an added to the wonderful array of donated raffle prizes, thanks to all those who donated their unwanted Christmas presents and I look forward to getting them back for next years raffle (tongue in cheek joke).
The winner on the day in near perfect conditions, on countback with 40 points was Steven Blake who narrowly pipped Martin Pestle into 2nd place. 3rd place went to the man who had the Armistice Trophy designed and manufactured and a previous winner with 39pts, Jim Robinson.
Cards were returned pretty promptly this year, thank you, but please could all players in any Shotgun Start events return their scorecards as soon as possible to the collection point as this alleviates the hanging around time to announce and present the winners with their prizes.
The money raised from today’s event is going to be around £900 possibly a bit more hopefully, and will be distributed to deserving charities accordingly.
Last but not least a big thanks to Stuart Low who has delivered and erected an official Honours Board for the Armistice Trophy which has been located in the small bar where the concept of this competition was started 10 years ago by the BigBird Society with 20 odd players and a tiny cheap wooden shield and consequently gained more competitors each year before being adopted by the club as an official competition. The Pictures and boards for the name plates were provided by myself and this whole display has not cost the club any money if you were wondering.
