EGC and Prostate Scotland
Partnership agreed
Erskine Golf Club are thrilled to announce that they are the first Golf Club in Scotland to officially partner with Prostate Scotland to raise awareness of the most common cancer among men. In addition, our Club Professional James McFadyen has also signed up to promote awareness

One man dies every 45 minutes from Prostate Cancer yet many of that number could have been avoidable deaths if detection had been earlier.

A frightening statistic is that in Scotland 37% of all men diagnosed are beyond effective treatment i.e. stage 4 cancer. Almost one third of men diagnosed did not have symptoms.

Recent projections by the NHS in Scotland suggest an increase in incidence of prostate cancer of 35% by around 2027.

Men have traditionally been reluctant to discuss health issues and even less likely to seek medical advice. To this end It is important that partners become aware of Prostate risk factors and symptoms. Wives and partners can “encourage” men to visit the Doctor.

Some of the risk factors include.
• Age-over 50 although a move to have it reduced to 40 or 45 is ongoing.
• Family history- Father, Grandfather or other male relatives having Prostate Cancer
• Of African descent
Symptoms can include.
• Frequent toilet visits- up 2 or 3 times at night is NOT an age thing.
• Blood in urine
• Lower back pain
• Difficulty passing urine.
• Bladder not fully emptying.
Golf Clubs certainly are target audiences- men of a certain age!

Within the locker rooms and at the bar, will be a supply of information leaflets. yes, ladies as well. Its important women can identify symptoms and encourage their male relatives to get tested.

For a symptom checker visit: https://www.prostatescotland.org.uk/

Ladies, please use this checker to make you aware of what to look for in your other half.
As an indication of our partnership in promoting awareness we will have and proudly display a Prostate Scotland banner at the first Tee.
It only takes one early detection, and a life saved for this to be a success. We look on this as an additional service to members.
We are fortunate to have two Prostate Scotland trained Prostate Champions as members of the Club, John Malcolm, and Brian McFadyen and both will be available to deliver presentations to any groups.

John Malcolm. Prostate Scotland trained Champion said “It is vital that all men over 50 get checked. It is a simple blood test to initially obtain a PSA reading. PSA is not a diagnosis, its an indicator to conduct further tests if necessary. Every man over 50 who has a family history, is in a high-risk group or has symptoms is ENTITLED to a PSA test at your local GP Surgery. Please use the symptom checker but remember you do not need symptoms. Please do not accept no symptoms no test. You have the right to the test so insist. Do not take no for an answer.”
