Course Protection & Fairway Mats
Fairway Mats
Dear Golfing member,

Winter Course Protection
The Greens Team review the condition of the course daily and any appropriate course protection constraints are communicated.
The four-stage Winter Course Protection Policy can be viewed on ClubV1 > Documents > Club Policies & Processes.
Any restrictions are put in place to protect both the course and the safety of players, so please ensure you - adhere to the guidance as notified on ClubV1 ‘Course Status’ updates each day, maximise use of paths and avoid wet / worn areas.

Use of Fairway Mats
From Monday 13th Jan 2025 it will be mandatory (compulsory) to use a ‘fairway mat’ throughout the General Area of the golf course, that is - ‘through the green’.
The fairway mat must be used in the General Area which includes: - fairways, the immediate rough and the fringes of the green (unless a putter is being used).
Mats cannot be used in Bunkers, Penalty Areas / leats, gorse, and any other natural hazard.
This policy will remain in place until such times as the weather improves, and grass growth is apparent.
This measure is put in place to protect your course and we hope that members will understand the need for the use of mats specific to course protection during this period, and which will reduce unnecessary maintenance in the golfing season.
The mandatory use of mats will be monitored and any non-compliances in their use that are reported to the Pro Shop or Office and validated, will result in disciplinary action.

Fairway mats
Fairway mats can be widely purchased online and YGC has a stock of ‘fairway multi-mats’ that can be hired (deposit £10) or purchased for £10. These can be hired/purchased in the Pro-Shop or in the Office.

Local Rule
When a ball lies in the General Area and a putter is not being used for the stroke, the player must place a ball on an artificial mat. The mat must be placed on top of the spot where the ball came to rest.

Acceptable Scores
During the period that this policy is in place scores in Competitions & General Play at Yelverton will not be acceptable for Handicap purposes.

Please support YGC in the protection of your golf course in these challenging weather condition.
