Captain's Drive -In
Captains started their year with the traditional Drive Inta
The 2025 golfing year began with the traditional Captain's Drive in.
Members and guests gathered around the first tee and on the balcony to watch the new Club Captain Mike Vickers, Lady Captain Judy Steingold and Junior Captain Luke Moran tee off their year.
This year the Captain ran a 'Dot the Drive' competition where entrants could pay to guess where the Captain's drive would finish. This was to raise money for the Captains' charities. This was won by Paul Jennnings who kindly donated his winnings to help kickstart the Captains' charity fund raising.
The Captain then hosted 139 members and guests for a 3 course meal. This was enjoyed by all, with delicious food and a relaxed friendly atmosphere.
During the Captain's speech he announced his chosen charities for the year. These were DGC Junior Foundation - promoting golf to young people and the Andy Gibson Foundation - working to encourage young people to play hockey. These join Lady Captain Judy's chosen charity Whizz Kidz - a charity that provides young wheelchair users with custom-made chairs enabling them to live life to the full.
As is tradition, those present ran a sweepstake for the length of the speech which was won by Carole O'Neill. Her winnings were added to the charity pot.
A very successful start to the year and we wish our new Captains all the best for the coming months.
