FRINTON GOLF CLUB

Frinton Golf Club held their annual trophy presentation at the end of February for all the adult competitions held in 2024 for both the Havers and Kirby course members, with a total of 38 trophies being awarded.

The first trophy competition of the year was held on Sunday when The Frank Thomson Trophy was played for. The Greensomes Stableford event was won by Steve Davies and Malcolm Boucher with 43 points, just beating the runners-up Tom Kennedy and John Sneddon by one point. Third place went to Steve Jones and Philip Gray who scored 41, and there were two teams on 40 points – Steve Powell and Rob Whitbread, and Ginny Richardson and Dan Keary.

Three junior members travelled to Orsett to take part in the first junior open of the year. The three Frinton members were Junior Captain Hadley Stringer, Dan Keary, and Daniel Jiggens. All of them played solid rounds of golf and shot 33 points or better on a very cold and windy winter’s day. Dan Keary came away with Frinton’s best score and was placed third in the nett competition with a great score of 39 points. This year Frinton are planning to take part in more junior opens around the county, so if you are interested please contact the head professional Tom Hide, or ask in the Pro Shop.

In his role as captain of the Essex PGA, Tom has taken his members to Penina in the Algarve for the Essex PGA Overseas Pro-Am. Tom’s team was Frinton member Rob Trotman and two ex-Frinton members Kelvin and Katrina Bygrave. Unfortunately, on this occasion Tom had to be content with handing out the prizes rather than receiving them.

Frinton are now running weekly Get Into Golf lessons, which are open to anyone who is new to the game or who hasn't played for a while. The cost of the lessons is £7.50 and you can attend any of these sessions :- Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday 11:00 - 12:00, and Saturday 10:30 - 11:30. If you know anyone who would like start playing this great game then please contact the Pro Shop.
