All that means that the new season is almost upon us. Gary and Brian have been working hard over the winter and have managed to keep us on main greens for most of the winter. The winter maintenance programme has all been completed and if the weather continues to cooperate, we will find the course in much better condition than it was at this time last year despite ‘those damn crows’ tearing up the sixth fairway again. Treating the bugs the crows are after with a pesticide is an option, but expensive and far from guaranteed to be successful, meaning Gary and Brian have had to get very creative with the counter measures – hence the (rubber) dead crows dangling from sticks.
We were lucky with recent storms that the only tree we really lost on the course was one of those overhanging the 8th tee which we had recently just discussed getting removed. Sometimes the weather works in your favour. Talking of wind, some of you will recollect that we had a few instances of flags falling over in the strong winds at the end of last season. Thanks to the generosity of our main sponsors, Muirhall Energy, we have hi-tec flag sticks that lock into the hole, however the locking mechanism on some the flags had become worn and weren’t locking into the holes. We have taken the decision to replace all the locking mechanisms to avoid further issues. The flags only require a small twist to lock or unlock, and the flags should be placed and removed gently to avoid unnecessary wear and damage. For causal rounds please consider putting with the flag in.
Off the course the major change is that we have completed the move from BRS to the ClubV1 platform. This has included a revamp of the club website – please take a moment to visit www.dundasparksgolf.co.uk and provide feedback on any improvements we can make or other things to add.
Moving to ClubV1 means we have a single platform to manage both bookings and competitions. Our knockout competitions and Open competitions are now open for entry and payment on ClubV1. Full details on how to access the ClubV1 members hub and how to book a round can be found on the club website www.dundasparksgolf.co.uk/club-v1-members-hub-information
If you have any issues, please contact handicaps@dundasparksgolf.co.uk
Subscriptions should now have been completed, and Stuart will be sending out invites to a small number from our waiting list to fill any spaces that have become available.
For any new or recent members, we will be having an informal meeting this Wednesday at 7pm. If you’ve recently joined and want to find out how the club works, who the club council are and what we do, or just ask a question please join us at the clubhouse.
To all members new or old I’d like to remind you that the on-going success of the club relies almost totally on volunteers and ask that at some point through the season you consider giving us even just an hour or two of your time. There are plenty of opportunities including council roles, assisting around the course, assisting with Opens, maintenance and helping around the clubhouse, office administration etc. If you think you can help, please drop an email to enquiries@dundasparksgolf.co.uk or speak to a member of the council.
One piece of admin, before I conclude. The annual change of the clubhouse door code will be taking place on Monday 24th. The new code will be available in the ClubV1 members area.
Finally, I hope to see many of you at our opening day competition on Saturday 29th March. You can register now via ClubV1 and this will help give us an idea of numbers and reduce the administration time on the day. Registration will still be available on the day.
Here’s to a great opening day and a successful new season.
