General Play Scores
WHS
Recently the subcommittee attended England Golf WHS training, and we need to let Members know that the club runs reports on General Play scores.

The data collected tells us what time you downloaded your scorecard and the time you entered your score.

An example presented was that a member created a General Play round at 15.30pm and entered their score at 17.30pm. They scored 100, however the date was 21st December. Clearly this member needed to create their card earlier in the day when there is sufficient light.

Another example is where players either use General Play cards to increase or lower their handicaps.

Example: Player A plays off a handicap of 10 and their GP average scores are between 78 and 82; their competition scores average from 90-100. In this example the player is clearly not a 10 handicap.

Example: Player B plays off a handicap of 20 and their GP average scores are between 90 and 100; their competition scores average from 78 to 82. In this example the player is clearly not a 20 handicap.

In these examples the Club would contact the player to explain their findings and, in most cases, an increase/decrease of their handicap would be applied with possible further sanctions.

If you want to do a General Play Card - best practice for general play is to use the MyEG app. The golfer can only download the scorecard at the club and use the app as a digital scorecard. The score must be verified and attested by an appointed person, promptly after play has finished, on the day of play and before leaving the club.

If you start a General Play round, then you must finish it and record all your scores. If for any reason you are not going to finish your GP round, then you should not start the round in the first place. Valid reasons for not completing a round might be a medical emergency, thunder and lightning, course closure due to e.g. flooding or snow. Feeling tired or playing badly are not valid reasons! If possible, check with pro shop staff before playing to ensure that the course you intend to play is valid to count for handicap purposes.
