Ninety-two gathered for Breakfast before the Opening Competition of the season at Killermont.
A pairs Greensomes was the chosen format - three pairs to a tee added to the fun/sociable theme of the day. This all kicked off with the aforementioned Captain’s Challenge Drive-In. John had set a challenge befitting a player of Captain Cliff’s pedigree - sadly knocking a ball off a tee, on top of a club shaft (4ft off the ground) - was just too tough - even for our Pro.
All good fun and most had a lovely days golf which was helped along with a Bar at the 9th Tee manned by Foxy. The weather was overcast to start and rain with a cold wind was forecast towards the end of the Round. Sadly an accurate forecast - Foxy was the Barometer as the tail end of the field passed him he was turning darker shades of blue.
A hot shower helped the de-frosting process and we were all relieved to see Foxy had made it back behind the bar in the Clubhouse. This was Chef Mihai’s Challenge too, his first event. Unlike our Captain, Mihai was successful - his Roast Beef with all the trimmings and Homemade Yorkie was a triumph.
Lots of Prizes for the Captain’s Challenge (1st to 5th), 3x Nearest the Holes and 2x Nearest the Holes in Two - (see photos of the winners).
The winners produced some fabulous golf to finish on 45 points and it was also a day for the Scott brothers, Gordon (1st) & Denis (4th)
