Spring is finally here and the course has vastly improved over the past month.
Greens
The greens have improved massively over the last month. They have had two granular treatments thus far, and now will only be liquid fertiliser going forward (until Autumn). Now the kickstart fertiliser has kicked in, we will now be mowing more frequently and soon the greens will be cut every day. The height of cut will soon be dropped to 5mm and the green speed will ultimately increase, as we also look to improve the trueness.
The shortest the greens will be cut this year will be 4mm.
Aprons
The aprons are now being double cut 3 times per week, with the grass being collected. Double cutting and collecting the grass is of course more time consuming, however it leaves a better finish and is more beneficial in the long run. The preparation for Winter greens begins now, looking to reduce worm activity and sward tightness.
We are waiting for the right opportunity to fertilise the aprons, but they are already looking very tight and defined.
Tees
Tees are currently being cut twice a week without collecting the grass. A lot of attention is needed on the tees; clearly they need releveling and seeding. We are doing our best to get around to leveling and seeding the tees, however some tees will need stripping completely and a proper relevel, which we will look into tackling as a Winter project.
Bunkers
Bunkers are now being raked regularly. It is noted that some bunkers are in need of more sand, which we aim to start tackling in the coming month.
To Note:
We will still be digging out the ditches in order to aid drainage. This work has been delayed but will still go ahead.
