Seniors Struggle at Perranporth
Breeze proves difficult
WCGC Seniors travelled to Perranporth on Monday 7th April knowing that the hosts would be up for the fight following West Cornwall’s victory in the Fred Rothwell Trophy last year.

Seniors Captain Dennis Fryer, playing with matchplay guru Fred Grist, made a solid start recording a 3&1 win against tough opponents. However, the middle order struggled against a determined Perranporth team and an increasing coastal breeze.
Despite some great hole scores by West Cornwall players, Perranporth were too strong on home territory and took the next 5 matches. West Cornwall’s final two pairs aided a valuable recovery, with Dave Phillips/Charlie Evans and Tom Gair/Mark Jones contributing respectable 3&2 and 1UP wins respectively. Given the challenging conditions, West Cornwall’s 5-3 loss was a creditable achievement.

Thanks from the Captain for the team members stepping up to fill necessary late changes. Thanks also to our Club Chairman, Antony Richards, for dusting off his match kit for this fixture. He was however rewarded with a bottle of fine wine for his creditable nearest the pin achievement on 16th!

Up next, a tough away fixture at The Point on Thursday 10th April.
