Duncan Putter update
Alex North represents The Coed in the seasons first ranking tournament.
The Duncan Putter is the first of the Welsh Order of Merit events and gives International and Walker Cup selectors a chance to assess early form. Competitors come from Wales, the UK and further afield. Duncan Putter qualifies as a World Amateur Golf Rankings event. The event was played April 11th-13th.
Alexander North for the second year representing our club entered. His aim was to go one better than last year and qualify for the final two rounds on Sunday.
Friday, Alexander teeing off at 0810, opened his first round with a 74 tied 23rd out of 90. Highlights of the round were 2nd hole, hitting a shot to 4ft from 156 yards. Chipping to 1ft from 30yds on the 6th to save par. Holing a 30ft putt on 8th to save par and getting up and down from a greenside bunker for a birdie on 13th.
Saturday, a slightly later tee time of 1100. Shooting a 79 to make it tied 33rd. The course set up was much harder than Friday. Highlight of the day was getting up and down from the greenside bunker on 18th to make the cut.
Sunday, two rounds to play. First tee was 0746. Third round of 75, tied 30. Highlights, a birdie on the Par 5, 5th and hitting a 4 iron into 12th green from behind gorse bushes.
The final round tee off at 1216, resulted in Alex shooting 81 and finishing tied 33rd overall. Highlight of the round, hitting a tee shot 247yds into wind on the Par 3 7th to 20ft.
Overall a good tournament, earning Order of Merit points. Highlight of the four days was playing the Par 5’s two under overall.
We look forward to following Alex’s progress over the coming season.
