A Windy Day in Tenby
Carmarthen and Pembrokeshire Women’s County Championship 2025
On Monday April 14th, 4 of our members played in the County Championships at Tenby Golf Club. Elspeth Owen (defending Champion), Alyson James, Nicky Reeves and Tabitha Curtis.
The conditions were difficult to say the least, with extremely strong winds. Elspeth, Alyson and Nicky played in an 18 hole medal qualifier in the morning and all qualified for the Knockout stages in the afternoon. With Elspeth also winning the Joan Gale Cup for the lowest Gross score.
Tabitha played in the Girls event and having never played Tenby before handled the winds very well and played below her handicap. Many congratulations Tabi.
The rain came in during the afternoon making conditions even more difficult. Alyson played Dwynwen Holgate from Cardigan and lost narrowly, 1 down. Nicky played Awen Thomas from Derllys Court and lost 3 and 2. Elspeth beat Jemma Nand-Lal from Tenby by 3 and 2 securing a place in the semi finals on Tuesday 15th. against Awen Thomas.
The weather was even worse on Tuesday morning and despite fighting all the way Els ended up losing on the 17th where her tee shot ended up in a pot bunker with no shot to play.
