Norfolk County Matches at Dereham Golf Club & Barnard Team's Away Fixture
Myhill & Cullington Matches – Dereham Golf Club
The Norfolk County Cullington and Myhill matches were played 4th May at Dereham Golf Club, with the Myhill squad facing Mundesley and the Cullington team taking on the Links Country Golf Club side.
The Myhill Match
It was a tightly contested day, with the Myhill squad finishing two games apiece in the morning round. The afternoon continued the suspense, with both teams drawing two-all after a remarkable final pairing effort from George Bedwell & Jonny Bidewell. Their clutch performance included an incredible recovery from the trees on the right side, where Jonny executed a stunning shot through a narrow gap—landing just short of the green. A well-placed chip secured the tie and kept the match alive.
With the teams still level, Matthew Cross and Chris Miller stepped forward for the playoff hole. Both sides hit solid drives, setting up a decisive approach. Mundesley played first, placing their second shot on the green, about 20 feet from the pin. Chris followed with a well-struck approach that just pulled to the bunker’s edge. Matthew responded with a controlled bunker shot, dragging slightly left, leaving a 12-foot putt. In the end, both teams two-putted, meaning Mundesley edged out the win on the day.
The Cullington Match
Meanwhile, over in the Cullington match, the teams were evenly matched going into the lunch break, tying at two games apiece. However, the Cullington squad stepped up in the afternoon, securing victories across all their games, showing great resilience and skill. All players put in a strong performance, but special recognition goes to Charlie Moore & Matthew Gorham, who faced a tough morning match, losing 6 & 5, only to deliver a stunning 8 & 7 win in the afternoon. Dale Barrett & Greg Caffyn also played consistently, securing 5 & 3 in the morning and following up with another solid 4 & 3 victory in the afternoon.
Further commendations go to Jack Hood & Jordan Mustard, who had close battles in both rounds, successfully winning their matches on the 18th hole each time—a testament to their ability to perform under pressure. Stuart Fletcher & his son Kristien faced a setback in the morning but bounced back to secure a victory in the afternoon, showing great determination. Well played!

A huge well done to Captain Paul Attoe, who led the Myhill squad with determination in a well-fought match—no one likes to lose, but the team gave it their all and kept the competition incredibly close.
A special mention also goes to Vice Captain Dave Allen for his role in Dereham Golf Club’s Cullington squad. His leadership contributed to a fantastic afternoon performance that saw the club win all their matches against the Links Country Golf Club team.

Barnard Team’s Away Match at Links Country Golf Club
On Wednesday, the Barnard team travelled to Links Country Golf Club for an away fixture, led by acting captain Steve Beckham in a new 10-man team format. Facing a strong home side, the team worked hard but found the course difficult to navigate, particularly towards the end of each round.
The home club made fewer mistakes throughout the match, and while some Dereham players felt they didn’t perform as well as they had hoped, the match was played fairly and with respect. We acknowledge Links Country Golf Club’s strong performance, and as visitors, we wish them success in the next round.
Result: Links Country Golf Club 4½ - Dereham ½

A Club to be Proud of
Dereham Golf Club should be proud of itself this week. We may not have won all our matches, but we carried ourselves as if we had. Grace and respect were shown to every club we played, and as competition secretary, I could not be prouder of Dereham Golf Club’s conduct and sportsmanship throughout the week.
Well played and well done – Steve Beckham
