Men's Glover Cup - This Weekend

The Glover Cup is taking place on Sunday with the Alternate Day Saturday. Every year I send out a few reminders prior to this event as it is Bogey format. For those who need a reminder, Bogey format works as follows:

You are effectively playing matchplay against the course, so the result of each hole is either a win, loss or halve. A nett birdie or better is a win of hole for you, a nett par is a halve and a nett bogey or worse is loss of hole for you. For example, if you have a shot on the 1st hole and you score a 5, this will be a halve. If you make a 4 or better, this will be a win, a 6 or worse will be a loss.

You must still mark your gross scores on the card, and then indicate the win, loss or halve in the points column of the card. A win of a hole is shown by using a '+' in the points column, loss of hole is shown by using a '-' in the points column, and a halve is shown by putting a '0' in the points column. At the end of the round you tally up to see your final result. Example, if you have 5 '+', 9 '0' and 4 '-', your finishing total will be +1. The winner of the Glover Cup is usually the player that finishes with the highest + number. Normally, this is around +5 to +7.

Please also note, this is a handicap qualifying competition. Therefore, if you have a putt for a nett bogey, you should still play it, even though you have already lost the hole. Effectively, from a handicap point of view, treat it like a Stableford, if you have a putt for a point, you should still play this shot. If you can't score at least a point on the hole, pick up and move on.
