Paul Adamson wins the Harburn G.C Under 30’s Championship
Congratulations to Paul Adamson who came out on top of a game that swung one way then the other from Jordan Mackinnon. The match played out on a bright sunny evening but with a brisk wind making for challenging conditions at times.
Paul took the early lead winning the first before birdies at 2 and 4 saw Jordan take to the front. Pars were good enough at a few holes to see Jordan board the 9th tee four ahead. Both players found trouble from the tee and it looked certain that Paul would get a hole back with Jordan forced top take a drop, Paul couldn’t capitalise however and the hole was halved.
Jordan four up after nine holes.
The tide started to turn at the 10th were Jordan failed to get up and down from the left hand side behind the bunker and Paul’s par cut the lead. The next turning point coming at the 12th where Paul’s fine birdie 3 took the lead to 2 up.
After a tie at 13 both players found the middle of the 14th. Paul’s fine approach found the green and with Jordan failing to get up and down from just short of the green, Paul’s par brought the game back to 1 up. Trouble from the tee at 15 saw a quick concession from Jordan and the match headed to the 16th tee all square.
Jordan found himself quite far back on the 16th but a fine approached saw pressure applied to Paul’s short range approach. Jordan’s put missed on the left but close enough for par but Paul raced his first put past the hole and failed with the return and the match swung back to Jordan.
Both players were in good position at 17 but Jordans approach came up short and he failed to get up and down. Paul’s par was enough to send the entertaining game down 18 all square.
No issues for either player from the 18th tee and Jordan was first to play in. His approach was decent with a reasonable look at birdie from around 12 feet. Paul’s approach checked up and just found the edge around twice the distance than Jordan’s. In a final twist Paul rolled an excellent put in to birdie the hole and unfortunately Jordan couldn’t match it and the game was over.
A very entertaining match played in great spirit by two players who not only went to school together but used to be golf doubles partners!
Congratulations Paul and well played to both players.
