With the handicap team winning their first-round tie in the Presidents Putter knockout over Auchenharvie 88 at home, they now will play another home fixture against Skelmorlie on Tuesday 24th June. The winners of that match will face an away tie against Troon St Meddans in the quarter final.
In the Handicap League, the team followed up their away win over Kilmarnock Barassie with a defeat away to Prestwick St Nicholas. However, when St Nicks returned to Bogside for the home tie, it was Irvine who came out on top in a close match.
The team lost to Ayr Belleisle on Thursday evening, and with the league now becoming extremely tight, it is now a race to see who will make it to the next stage.
The scratch team are sitting top of their league just now with victories over Largs, Royal Troon, Prestwick St Cuthbert and Turnberry. Their only defeat so far coming away to Kilmarnock Barassie. They maintain a four-point lead over Ayr Belleisle who have played one match less.
A special mention should go to juniors Aidan Hay and Mason Chisholm who stepped up to play for the scratch team in their away win against Turnberry. Both did not look out of place at that level, with the night being capped off with Mason having a hole in one.
As the saying goes, “if you are good enough, you are old enough”!
Good luck to all teams for the remaining fixtures.
