Greens Committee Update
A summary of our review in June.
Last month the Greens Committee met at the clubhouse followed by a walk round the course.

Not everything you see is on the surface and we feel the club members would like to know more about the work that goes on to maintain the course and where their money is going. For instance, there's a huge amount of drainage channels and sprinkler pipes running throughout the course which require constant attention.

Everyone notices the fairways and greens being cut on a daily basis, but are probably not aware of the medium and long term works to provide an enjoyable experience for players. The year always starts with a "plan". This however has to allow for "firefighting" and the plan may slip. A recent example is the springs that popped up on the third fairway causing unexpected wet and muddy patches.

In the medium term there are plans to improve the drainage on the course and in particular on the third fairway. Following feedback from members, various bunkers are being improved where there has previously been long term GUR. The pathways are being improved, with material being laid to complete the preparation work undertaken during the winter and early spring, and better broken tee boxes provided. There will also be a doubling up of the rubbish bins around the course to aid recycling and make the visual appearance of the course better. This latter action was in response to member feedback.

In the longer term there are plans to enhance the water features already on the course and to create new ones. There is a mammoth new track going in behind the third green to enable the green keepers to move around the course more easily and without as much disturbance to players, and importantly to provide direct access to the dry side of the course for machinery in the wetter months which will reduce damage to the surface of the 2nd fairway in particular.

The green keepers are a dedicated team aiming to improve the player experience. Not everything is a quick fix but rest assured where something is seen as a priority they will do their utmost to solve it, from the small things like ensuring that the course clocks have their batteries changed regularly, to additional watering of greens during the current heat wave.

If there are any queries regarding the course please address them to a member of the Greens Committee: David Brimble, Jarlath Brine, Karen Sauvage, Richard Osborne, and of course Lee Perkins the Course Manager.

We hope you continue to enjoy the great weather and the year-on-year improvements to the condition of the course and 19th hole.
