Presidents Day
Pope pips Scott Watson to win the Presidents Putter
Around 74 players racked up for the Presidents Day competition with many unaware a free buffet was on offer afterwards as I’m sure it would have been a full field if this was the case.

There was an abundance of raffle prizes to be won and the majority of players tried their luck now that the age-old excuse of “I’ve got no cash on me” has been made redundant with Queen of the Raffles, Maggie, now fully trained in the use of a card reader.

Players were greeted by the President on arrival in what was to be Howard’s last Presidents Day as his 3-year tenure is coming to an end. The incoming Lady President, Vonnie Thornton, was on “Fizz duty” at the Halfway Hut” and obviously thought Halfway referred to half measures, thanks Vonnie and good luck in your Lady President years.

With the recent rain softening up the course the scores have been slightly lower and this resulted in a very close leader board with all the results coming in and with the fact that the 2 nearest the pin holes were overlooked the main prizes went down to 5 places.

The minor placings went to David “Monty” Marshall, Kasey Bailey and Joshua Bryenton in 3rd, 4th and 5th respectively.

First place was decided on countback with Ray Pope just beating Scott Watson. Ray delivered a wonderful speech afterwards and for those that couldn’t quite hear what he said I’ll ask him to provide a transcript, so that’ll be around 50 copies please. In Rays defence his mind was in another place, namely the free buffet and when it was to be opened.

Thanks to everyone who played and purchased raffle tickets and of course Simon and his team for the buffet, Julie and Carly behind the bar, Maggie for not only selling the raffle tickets but also providing the wonderful First prize hamper, Matt and Maggie for collecting the cards and getting the scores in promptly, Howard Kellett for making the simple task of handing out the scorecards seem surprisingly difficult and of course President Howard Thornton making the day possible.

The monies made from this day will going to Captain David Mills charity, BRAKE.
