The 2025 Brimble Trophy was played on Sunday 27th July.
This is one of the club "majors", and a medal competition with a healthy entry of 16. It was played in good spirits, with groups giving thumbs up, thumbs down or merely laughing as they gave updates as they crossed the course. It was won by the Club Seniors Captain, Ian Cox, with a nett 69. His playing partners witnessed on the 14th hole probably, by his own admission, the best shot he has ever played on any golf course: chipping the ball from 80 yards and a horrible lie to c 2 feet from the pin for a simple tap in par. Rumours of a plaque being placed on the site of the shot as a permanent record of this achievement are just that, rumours.
The runner up was Peter Dela, on countback from Chris Chaundry, with a nett 71. Both played good rounds.
The conditions were excellent, with a gentle breeze and the novelty of green fairways. It was also really pleasing to see all the competitors stay behind for a drink, chat, and the trophy presentation to Ian.
Any new members considering entering competitions are encouraged to do so and will find a friendly and supportive group to help them get round.
Another reminder for members that there are tee reservations on a Tuesday night from 6pm for any member wishing to join the club roll up: simply to play nine holes with new people, or to hand in general play cards.
