Firstly, I must start by telling you all about this very quirky - with very small greens - 9 hole course, which if you have never played or been to play before it’s worth a little visit. It is 18 holes in total, but the back 10 to 18 are played from different tee boxes, which is very confusing. Even when you are watching you get very confused, so think how the players felt, ha ha!
I must say the hospitality from the Ineos players and officials was first class. Great compliments from everyone about the course and the food that we were served at the Bay Horse at Heighington. Probably worth a visit to try with your partner at some point, I don’t think you will be disappointed!
In the scratch section Billingham won by 8 points to 4 points. Our winning players were Josh Thompson 1up, coming from 3 down at one point, so well done Josh, Andy Hood 3&2 and Phil Chadwick also winning 3&2. We gained two half points from Tom Lee and our seasoned expert player Graeme Nimmo also coming back from 3 down to gain a half, well done to both of you. Our only defeat was for Paul McGrath losing 2 down. Hope both Josh and Tom found their way home after all the trouble they had getting to the golf course, must have borrowed Mike Ure’s sat nav ha!
The handicap section gained an equal share 6 points each. Our winning players were Nic Winstanley giving his opponent 5 shots, winning 3&2, Marc Symington giving his opponent 5 shots and winning 2 up, Daniel Spence also giving 5 shots and winning 3&2. Our losing players were Steve Smart, giving his opponent 7 shots and losing 3&2, Darren Hurst giving his opponent 5 shots and losing 5&3 and Will Bellerby giving his opponent 4 shots, losing 1 down. Well done to everyone of you, it’s hard enough giving shots when you are at home but when playing your opponent on his own course it is even harder.
The final result being Billingham 14 points, Ineos 10 points. A fantastic performance to win away from home at such a quirky golf course to keep our winning run going.
Neil and I would like to thank everyone of you, a great performance on the night. Once again your team spirit is magnificent supporting each other when your games are over by going to help your team members with words of encouragement. You are a magnificent set of lads and it is a pleasure to be managers of such a great bunch of people. This great result now puts us up into second place in the league table with one match to play, so lads it’s in our hands to get that promotion spot regardless of anything else to be so near is a great position to be in.
Now a big thank you to our magnificent supporters who never fail to amaze us all. Every week they are there cheering on our players, it is much appreciated especially this week as it’s so hard to get access to the Ineos golf course through the chemical plant. So here we go; Vice-Captain Albert Spence BEM, Terry Buckley, Craig Ewen, Jack Hurst (minus his bag of found golf balls, there’s always next week Jack at home to top up your golf ball supply), Mike ‘belly full of pie and chips’ Lee (hope Sandra doesn’t find out you had double helpings ha ha) and making their first appearance of the season away from home, our facilities Manager Beth Collict ably supported by her fellow member of staff Holly (not with the ie) Stead. I hope you both enjoyed watching the lads play. Finally, our resident OAP’s Howard Gill the chauffeur this week for Robert Scotson Smith. Thank you all for supporting and it is much appreciated by both the players and the managers.
Our last fixture of the season is at home to Barnard Castle Golf Club who are top of the league on Wednesday 6th August 2025. This will be a massive game and a good win could get us promoted alongside our opponents, so get yourselves down to support your team players and offer as much encouragement as you can as you will not be disappointed in the golf you will be watching! So, on Wednesday night, turn off the TV, save some electricity and get onto the golf course to support the lads. They all deserve it, and remember it’s definitely better than watching all the soaps…you could always record or watch them on catch up at a later date but again the choice is yours but I know where I would rather be, not forgetting you can always come and have a drink while watching the golf, you will be well looked after by Beth and her wonderful bar staff.
See you all Wednesday night then you all have no excuses.
With Thanks
Tony The Tiger (Grrrrrrreat) and Neil Kerr
