Tabby Wins at Welwyn Garden City
Ladies Champion of Champions
Tabby Brain kept up her unbeaten run in 2025 by winning the Marlene Duke Trophy at Welwyn Garden City Golf Club on Saturday. The 36 hole competition was for winners of Ladies Club Championships in 2024.

Not having played the course before, the undulating nature of the course made club selection difficult. Tabby shot an excellent morning round of one over par 73, which included five birdies. The highlights being two bridie two’s. This left Tabby with a narrow lead going into the afternoon round. Despite an early bogey, Tabby birdied the 4th and 5th to extend her lead. A mini crisis on the 9th and 10th saw three shots dropped. Tabby managed to steady herself with a string of five pars before a wedge to four feet on the 16th hole lead to a birdie. A three putt on the 17th resulted in a bogey. With just one hole to go and unaware of her position, just the par 3 18th remained. A long wait on the tee didn’t help the nerves but Tabby pulled out a 7 wood and arrowed it straight at the pin to 3 feet. The resulting birdie matched her morning round of 73 for a 146 total.

This proved good enough to be the first winner of Marlene Duke Trophy. Tabby has enjoyed a memorable unbeaten year having only played in three competitions and winning the Club Championships, County Championships and now the Champion of Club Champions.
