Thank you for your patience throughout the past week regarding the greens renovation work. As we all know, within two to three weeks the surfaces will be back to thier best.
The rest of the course is starting to spring back into life following the very dry spring / early summer and in my opinion playing quite nicely. We continue to operate preferred lies in an effort to be fair to golfers and protect some of the bare areas.
With holiday season in full flow, it's actually been a bit quieter at the club these past few weeks. That said, membership enquiries continue to flood in. Just so members are aware when asked by friends / colleagues etc, our 7 day membership is completely full, that applies to all categories, be it junior or adult. We can accept 5 day adult membership and limited flexible membership purely because that's mid-week golf and we have space. We have a waiting list for 7 day memberships.
VICE CAPTAINS DAY
David Kyle (pic) put on a great event for his vice captains day last Sunday. Over 100 golfers played a modified Green keepers revenge / Texas scramble type event.
Our green keepers look forward to getting thier own back for 4 hours each year by making life as hard as possible for all those playing! Various obstacles were 'left' on the course, trailers in fairways, hosepipes rakes and shovels left on greens, sandcastles in unraked bunkers (which one green keeper remarked should be like normal for our members!) A chair to sit on while playing from the 9th tee and junior clubs to use on hole 7 were a particular highlight as was the continued drenching by the watering system. All in all it was a fun round of golf played in great spirits.
David managed to kick off his fundraising with an incredible £1720 for his charity of choice which in 2026/27 will be Prostate Cancer. Thanks to the continued generosity of members!
Winners on the day were:
1st = S. Doherty / P. Borromeo / A. Routh / K. McNally = 59.0 - £25ea
2nd = T. Southwell / R. Pearson / M. Pain / B. Dale = 60.0 - £20ea

JUNIOR TEAM ROUND UP:
Interclub:
We entered 2 teams into this years Interclub competition held at The Bedfordshire.
Green team
Scott Kemp (junior captain) 36
Sam Harris 29
Oliver Clark 29
Blue team
Jack Skelton 39
Sophia Turonnet 38
Hayden Tallentire 24
The course was in great condition the same couldn’t be said for the weather, whilst it remained dry the wind played a major factor.
With all the juniors battling hard the green team set the benchmark coming in with a combined 94 points, but it was the blue team who sealed 3rd overall with a total score of 101 points (narrowly beating Beds & County by 1 point)
Congratulations all
Vale League
We started the defence of our title away to Leighton Buzzard, which is always a tricky match, however once again our juniors played well and came away with a 4-2 win.
Congratulations to Jago for an outstanding 7&5 win.
2nd match was a home fixture against Buckingham which was another tight match but a great 4-2 win kept up our 100% record.
Congratulations to Jago again for an outstanding 7&6 win and also to Oliver England for a brilliant 5&3 win in his first Vale match for the team.
3rd match was a home match against our arch rivals The Bedfordshire. This was a lot closer than we would have liked with some outstanding golf played by both sets of juniors but a great 3.5-2.5 win meant we were 3 from 3 and top of the table.
Congratulations to Jack Skelton for his 5&4 win, Andy Hughes for a 6&4 win on debut for the team and to Sophia Turonnet for her 6&5 win.
4th match was away to Cainhoe Wood, unfortunately we suffered our first loss in the competition, but with 3 of our team giving away 13 shots each it was always going to be a tough ask.
Huge congratulations to Jack Skelton who despite giving away 13 shots secured an impressive 5&4 win, Jack really is playing some great golf at the moment, also to Sophia Turonnet who despite sending her tee shot on the last into the hazard, she kept her composure to 1 putt in front of both teams and parents to secure a half.
With 1 away fixture (Aspley Guise) and 1 home fixture (Woburn) remaining to play in August, it’s looking like a great end to a close competition.
Good luck to all the team
Junior Team Assistant Manager - Jon Turonnet
