Hillman Trophy campaigners win the day
Wheeler and Buckle give lesson in course management
The most recent club major competition saw 11 pairs challenge for the David Heads Greensomes Trophy.

For those members unfamiliar with this format, both members of each pair drive and then select the most strategically favourable drive to then play alternate shots until the hole is completed.

In fabulous weather conditions favourable for low scoring, with greens more receptive and a gentle breeze, David Buckle and Gavin Wheeler (part of and Captain of the Club's Hillman Trophy semi-final team) were clear winners with a strong Stableford score of 43 points. Club Captain Steve Finn and Chairman Jarlath Brine were second with 40, with Andy Venney and Chris Thornett a close third with 39.

Huge thanks to all pairs and especially to Richard and Dermott who not only scored a very creditable 37 points themselves but ensured that their playing partners, who were playing in this type of competition for the first time, also had an enjoyable debut experience and scored well.

Please keep a lookout for the Hillman Trophy semi-final date (to be played away at Lambourne Golf Club, Bucks/Berks borders) and pop along to support the team if you can.

A reminder that the next Friday Fun Social event will take place on Friday 29th August and will be a 9-hole Team "Waltz" starting at 6.30 and hosted by the Women's Captain and Vice Captain, Annabel and Penny. The format will be a best ball Stableford with a twist which is that on the first hole only the best score is recorded, on the second the two best scores are recorded, and all three scores count on the third. This sequence will be repeated three times. Most points win. Add your name to the sign up sheet.
