Seniors Fall at Falmouth
Loss on the Road
WCGC Seniors travelled to Falmouth GC on Thursday 11 Aug for the return leg of this fixture. The WC team expected stiff resistance after their convincing home victory in May and with Falmouth on safe home turf WC struggled to dominate.

The first two pairs were unable to contribute despite benign weather conditions (although several trees played their part). The ship was eventually steadied when Jeff Deakin and Ian Allsopp logged a first point, quickly followed by a well fought half from Fred Grist and Geoff Baylis, then a further point from a cruising victory by Vice Captain Tom Gair and partner Jim Sinclair-Smith (6&5).

The final paring of Kelvin Searle and Andy Wagstaff added another point to the WC total but the visitors eventually fell short with an overall victory of 4 1/2 - 3 1/2 to Falmouth.

A big thanks to all the team members for supporting the fixture and well done to the victors. Well done also to Tom Gair for taking this week's nearest the pin prize on a tricky 18th and a bottle of fine wine.

Next up on the friendlies circuit is a home fixture against Truro GC on 28 Aug. However, the Seniors are also in action on Friday 22 Aug at Perranporth GC hopefully successfully defending last year’s victory in the Fred Rothwell Shield. This year 10 clubs are taking part with 10-man teams playing 4BBB format and with all pairs scores aggregated to a team total. Come on Team, we can do it again!
