George Morris takes the crown!
George Morris Crowned Dereham Club Champion 2025

This year’s Club Championship was a fantastic showcase of golf, with quality scoring across both rounds and a tightly contested leader board. In the end, it was George Morris—a new member at Dereham since June—who rose to the occasion, producing two superb rounds of 70 (-1) and 71 (Even) to finish on a winning total of 141.

George, who joined us from Eaton Golf Club, plays off +3 and is a regular in the county first team. He brings both experience and energy, and his calm, consistent play through the championship left no doubt about his class.

The first round set the tone, with George leading the way on 70, closely followed by Lewis Bates (72), Jake Gunby (73), and a cluster of players in the mid-70s. The afternoon round saw more tight scoring, with George holding firm at 71, while both Jake Gunby and Matthew Strudwick impressed with solid rounds of 72.

When the totals were added up, the top five positions were as follows:

?? Final Leaderboard (Top 5)
1?? George Morris – 70 + 71 = 141 (Champion)
2?? Jake Gunby – 73 + 72 = 145 (Outstanding performance at just 15 years old, also an U16 county player)
3?? Matthew Strudwick – 76 + 72 = 148 (County first team player)
4?? Richard Hawes – 75 + 74 = 149
5?? Andy Groves – 75 + 74 = 149 (Past Champion)

? Special Mention – Archie Miller
One of the most inspiring stories of this year’s championship came from Archie Miller, who at just 11 years old produced rounds of 80 + 79 (159) to finish in an excellent 11th place overall. Even more impressively, Archie finished two shots ahead of last year’s champion!

This was a performance full of maturity, determination, and promise, and Archie’s achievement deserves a huge round of applause. Well done, Archie—an outstanding effort and one to watch for the future Especially when he was off 31 handicap only 5 months ago!
