The team arrived at St Andrews and were welcomed by their General Manager before having breakfast overlooking the Old Course. Hugh Purves (VIce Captain) gave us warm words of welcome before we confirmed the matches to the assembled players with golf to be played over the Jubilee course.
The course was in great condition and playing downwind for the front nine the scoring was good, back nine conditions more challenging into the wind with bogeys or worse becoming more common. As the matches started to come back in and return their results The New Club took and early lead and with one game to return the score was finely poised at 4-3 with a draw sufficient for Glasgow to retain the trophy. Unfortunately a loss in the final match resulted in a 5-3 victory for The New Club and the trophy being left in St Andrews.
Our hosts provided us with a lovely dinner and plenty of hospitality to go with the great spirit the match had been played in. We look forward to hosting The New Club again next year at Killermont and continuing the relationship between our two clubs.
