Red Arrows over East Devon
Roy Barber
Many members will have enjoyed the air display over the course and Sidmouth last week, but one member of East Devon Golf Club had the opportunity to get closer and re-live his time as a Red Arrows pilot when Red One, Squadron Leader Jon Bond, invited Roy Barber and his grandchildren to visit the team at Exeter Airport.

2025 is the 50th anniversary of Roy joining the team, flying a Gnat in displays for 3 years.

Roy and his family loved watching the air display over Sidmouth on Friday, when many on the course will have been able to watch them fly overhead. On Saturday it was a personal visit to meet the team and have a closeup tour of one of the Hawk aircraft. Roy is shown in the photo with Red One. He also met Red Nine, who still flies a Gnat, and was able to reminisce about the handling of the old aircraft.

With special gifts and a photo with the team, Roy’s grandchildren loved being so close to the aircraft and pilots, before watching them take off on their way to Denmark.

Those visiting would like to thank the whole team, as well as XLR Aviation, who made the morning so special.
