Saturday 23rd August 2025
Glorious sunshine and a buzzing atmosphere welcomed 82 gentlemen to Osborne Golf Club on Saturday 23rd August for our annual Ryder Cup competition – one of the standout days in the club calendar.
The format followed tradition, with a morning session of fourball better ball matches, followed by an afternoon of singles and greensomes encounters. As always, the competitive spirit was matched by camaraderie, good humour, and some fantastic golf on show across the course.
This year’s contest saw Captain Trevor Maidment’s grey team pitted against Vice Captain Dez Paton’s blue team. From the opening tee shots it was clear neither side would give an inch, with momentum swinging back and forth throughout the day.
The golf produced was of the highest quality – from long drives and pin-seeking approaches to clutch putts under pressure – and provided great entertainment for all involved.
After a full day’s play, the scores were tied at 11–11, reflecting just how evenly matched both sides were. With the draw, Captain Maidment’s team retain the Ryder Cup trophy, much to their delight.
A special thank you goes to everyone who helped organise the day, and of course to all the players who made the event such a success. The Ryder Cup remains a highlight of the Osborne Golf Club year, and 2025 was no exception – a day of golf, sunshine, friendship, and unforgettable competition.
