The increasing wind strength during the morning made low scores extremely difficult, and a check in with the eventual winner halfway round didn’t suggest the success to come, with a rather pessimistic “I’ll be lucky to break 100 today” analysis of their round so far.
Anyway, slow and steady would eventually win a very tight race for the gross score winner. Three tied on 91: well played to Neil Smith, Chris Thornett and Alisdair Watson. A Chris Thornett birdie at the last saw him a close runner up, but the winner was Neil Smith based on the scores over the last six holes, parring the last three to secure the title and double up as both the Men’s and Senior Men’s Champion for 2025. A fantastic and very popular achievement by Neil.
The nett competition was also close, with David Kear winning with a nett 73, Richard Standring runner up with a nett 75, and Chris Thornett third with a nett 76 rounding off a very good day for him.
Congratulations to the winners Neil and David
