Legends Tour Update – Basozábal, Spain
Here’s your weekly update from the Legends Tour, where our very own Andrew Marshall was in action alongside some of the game’s greats at Basozábal Golf Club in Northern Spain. It was also the stage where Scott Hend produced a stunning performance to lift the European Legends Cup.

On Tour with Andrew Marshall – Spain
Our own Andrew Marshall was back on the Legends Tour this week, finishing in 29th place with scores of 71, 70, and 73.
Andy’s ball-striking remains one of his strengths — he hits plenty of greens and gives himself chances. But at this level, it comes down to holing more putts. Sometimes the ball just won’t drop, and that was the story this week. Over the 54 holes, he made 13 birdies, but they were offset by nine bogeys and a double bogey.
In round one, Andy rolled in five birdies but finished only -1. Round two saw five more birdies and a tidy -2. The last round was tougher, though he did finish on a high with three birdies in his final four holes. The positives are there — the birdies are coming, and the eagles will follow soon — but the bogeys are holding him back from matching the pace of the leaders.
It’s a reminder of how fine the margins are at this level. I remember my old boss, Jonny Johnson at Rushmere Golf Club, saying: “To be a great putter, you have to be in charge of your game. Put your second shots on the correct side of the hole, and you’ll give yourself a chance.” Being consistently below the pin makes holing putts so much easier, but it requires precision, control, and yes — a little bit of luck.
A perfect example came this week from Rory McIlroy at the Irish Open. On the 18th, he once again left himself a chance at eagle. Rory admitted he’d had almost the same putt at another event recently and missed it. This time, it dropped. That’s the game — do the right things, keep hitting greens, keep putting yourself in the right positions, and eventually the putts will fall.
Andy is doing just that. The consistency is there, the birdies are coming, and once the putter warms up, the results will follow.
Once again, it’s great to see Andy continue to compete well on the Legends Tour, and I look forward to his next event at WINSTONgolf, Vorbeck.
Well played again mate — keep grinding away at the practice, I know it will pay off!

Scott Hend Clinches European Legends Cup
While Andy was battling hard, it was Scott Hend who stole the headlines at Basozábal, winning the European Legends Cup, hosted by José María Olazábal, by two shots.
The Australian closed with a superb 67, finishing on -16 to claim his third Legends Tour title. Despite strong pressure from Adilson Da Silva and Stephen Gallacher, Hend held firm down the stretch.
The difference-maker was his scoring power: over 54 holes he made 16 birdies and 4 eagles, enough to overcome six bogeys and one double bogey. That firepower gave him not just the win, but also a commanding lead in the 2025 Legends Tour Order of Merit.
