COURSE NEWS 14th SEPTEMBER
Greens maintenance week ahead
The weather finally seems to have settled into a more normal seasonal pattern, with 6 mm of rain in the week to Friday and 14 mm the previous week. Gardeners will know the soil is still very dry an inch down. We will need a lot more rain before the spring, but hopefully not yet: the work to level and resurface 4 more tees, which will start later in October, will involve some heavy machinery; we don’t want a wet course.

The stimp reading this week was 9’ 4”. That will probably be the last reading for this year.

Gavin finished his work with the large digger on Tuesday. He was able to get to all his target areas. Inevitably the worked locations are not very pretty, but they will recover over the winter; the benefits of the work will become clear. The pond by the culvert under the road on the 2nd has been reshaped, creating an area that will take some years of spoil - which comes down Guy Lane brook in quantity every year.

This week (w/c Sept. 15) is our greens maintenance week. The summer has been hard on our greens: they have seen a lot of traffic and endured some testing - and damaging - weather. They need a fair bit of work to recover and set them up for next year. It seems a shame to disrupt them when they are looking so good but we must look to the future, and the work can’t be left any later.
