COURSE NEWS 6th OCTOBER
Storm Amy
This week’s Update was held over so we could cover the impact of storm Amy, but in the event there was nothing dramatic to report. It’s not that the forecasts were overhyped, as often can be the case, it’s more that our little fraction of ‘the North-West’ seems to escape the more severe weather. We ended up with 14 mm rain for the week, half of which fell on Saturday, whilst the wind - which early on Saturday was gusty enough at 07:00 to cause a temporary closure - backed off enough to allow the course to reopen, and for Saturday’s event to go ahead. There was no significant tree damage, despite the trees still being in fairly full leaf.

Course work in the week was nearly all routine. The sides of the ponds and ditches were strimmed or flymown, and the approaches have had some attention - they are responding well, and Gavin has plans to continue the process next season.

There has been an outbreak of fusarium - which thrives on damp mild conditions; the greens have been sprayed to catch it early.

Elsewhere, the environmental group have been very busy planting out the wild flowers they have been propagating over the summer. They won’t stand out, and it will take a keen eye to monitor their success. The real benefit is the support these plants give to local insects, helping them to flourish.
