Frinton Links Golf Club lady captain Sarah Fryer and vice-captain Sandra Balderston have won the Essex Ladies County HiLo competition this weekend held at Braintree GC. They defeated a pair from Boyce Hill 5 and 3 in increasingly difficult conditions of heavy rain as the day progressed. The final of the Bronze Singles was held at the same venue, but unfortunately Frinton’s Ginny Richardson lost a closely fought match on the 17th hole against a lady from Romford GC.
The ladies section held the captain’s away day at Newton Green last week. The runaway winners of the best two scores from three event were Caroline Gard, Caroline Jiggens, and Sandra Balderston with a total of 91 points.
The Courage Cup was played for on Sunday, and winner with 42 points was Nigel Oakley. One point behind were Max Leonardi and Vince McAuley, with Tom Kennedy fourth (40).
The men’s seniors played for the Seniors’ Shield, and the winner with 39 points was Malcolm Boucher. The runner-up one point behind was Ray Hannam, with Ian Thomson third on countback with 35.
The seniors played their final fixture of the season at home to Ipswich, succumbing to a defeat by 4 matches to 2. The overall tally for the season is 9 wins, 4 draws, and 7 losses. The seniors’ captain Jeff Morgan wished the best of luck to his successor Graham Waltham.
It has been a busy week for the Kirby course members. The Rose Bowl was won by Carol Pryke with 36 points and Ron Pardy was victorious in the Men’s Kirby Cup winning with 41 points. Division one in the October Stableford was claimed by Ian Jones with 40 points while division two was won by Trevor Payne with a fantastic score of 49 points.
The Wednesday WAGS held a white tee medal competition, and winner of division one was Paul Tanner with nett 72. Division two was won by Melvyn Harvey with a fine score of nett 65, while 95 year old George Greenwood was second with nett 69. Harvey also had a nice surprise when he was reunited with his mobile phone and credit cards 16 months after losing them in a pond at Braintree.
