Congratulations to our very own Junior Organiser, Glennis Dawes, who won the Volunteer of the Year at the Wolverhampton Sport Council award ceremony last night.

Glennis Dawes is an extraordinary individual whose unwavering commitment and passion for junior golf has made a lasting impact at South Staffordshire Golf Club and across the wider golfing community. As Junior Organiser at the Club and Welfare Officer for the Staffordshire Ladies Golf Union Juniors, Glennis has dedicated countless hours to nurturing, guiding, and supporting the next generation of golfers.
Now in her 80s, Glennis remains a constant and inspiring presence. Her approach to junior golf is both compassionate and comprehensive, treating every young golfer as if they were her own. She personally welcomes each new junior and their parents, taking the time to explain safeguarding measures, club expectations, and the pathway the young player will take to become part of the junior section. Her clear dedication to child welfare and safe practice sets the standard for all involved.
Glennis’s contribution goes far beyond administration. She is hands-on with the juniors, taking them out onto the course, teaching them how to play, instilling the values of proper etiquette, and helping them understand the rules of the game. With patience, care, and a genuine love for the sport and its traditions, she ensures every junior golfer receives a solid foundation and a warm welcome into the golfing community.
In addition to coaching and mentoring, Glennis also organises all junior fixtures and competitions at the club. Her organisational skills and tireless efforts ensure that every event runs smoothly, and more remarkably, she is present for every single one of them. Her presence offers both consistency and encouragement to the young players, and her support is felt deeply by the juniors and their families alike.
Glennis embodies the true spirit of volunteering — generous, humble, and entirely selfless. Her work has not only strengthened the junior section of South Staffordshire Golf Club but also contributed to the broader development of junior golf in Staffordshire. She is a role model, a mentor, and a beloved figure within the club community.
