Charity Day
Ayla Louise Clarke Golf Day
Friday November 7th saw the course closed all day to allow this charity golf day to go ahead. It wasn’t an ordinary golf charity but one that was in aid of a member of 25 years and his granddaughter Ayla Louise Clarke who at the age of almost 3 years is suffering from Level 5 Cerebral Palsy, the worst condition. Before I thank all those that made the day go ahead I’d like to thank all members of GGC who have respected the fact that the course was closed all day to them.
There were many sponsors on the day, too many to mention with Tee sponsorship etc but Matt Leggett sponsored the day and prizes, John Cater (formerly known as Trotters Glass Chandelier restoration Dec 2nd to Dec 3rd 1982) , JAX Plumbing and Chris Collings (Jary’s Funeral Services 1868 to infinity) were sponsors of the Nearest Pin holes.
The usual cogs of GGC made this all possible, Office, Bar, Kitchen and Competition committee and of course Jason Dexter and his family and associates.
Onto the trivial part, the golf, blessed with an absolute glorious November sunny day the 92 players embarked on a 10.30 shotgun start, 5 groups having to tee off 10 minutes early having driven, with participants coming from as far as Caister Golf Club, iGolf, No Idea Golf, Essex and 6 internationals from Northern Ireland the competition began. As luck would have it the non-playing Senior Captain of Royal Norwich GC was actually called into action after only 5 holes, unfortunately he was in my presence when an emergency call from Jason Dexter came through informing me of the fact the beers were running low at the halfway hut, thanks Mark Chorley for popping to the supermarket and topping up supplies, a true Drifter/BigBird member.
The 3 winners of the nearest the Pin prizes all decided to donate their £150 prizes back to the charity, thanks to Alex Reid, Pete Ball and Steven Blake for that generous gesture. Duane Gooch sponsored and organised a putting competition which was won by Kev Carter who donated his £150 back to the charity and a special mention to the NSPGA who also made a generous donation. The winning team on the day was a 50/50 International family affair with local brothers Lee and James Crosswell partnered with Brendan and Declan Carlin from Northern Ireland taking the first prize with 101 points (AM/AM and all scores on Par 3’s to count) on countback from some other losers.
The last word of the last sentence is not detrimental to any of those who played because there was only one winner on the day and that was all who played, supported, helped and Ayla Louise xxxxxx
