Greens Update January 2026

Dear Members,

We hope this finds you well and we’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support and to wish you a Happy New Year.

Course Update
We are satisfied that most of the drainage systems we’ve installed over the last couple of years have made a significant difference. We have some snagging works to complete and a lot more to do in this area, but we’ve made a good start. Generally, the course has been accessible and has bounced back from adverse weather conditions within a short amount of time.

Drainage works at the back of the 1st green are proving effective. We have a little more exploratory digging to do however we can begin to install most of the drainage lines immediately.

We have been experimenting a different approach in regard to playing on the main greens during the winter. Collars have been cut at summer height when possible and pins placed very close to the perimeter of the greens to confine wear and tear to the edges. So far, we feel it’s been positive. We’ve exclusively played on 6 of the greens with only a minimal amount of wear. We’d like to continue this through the rest of the winter and assess the impact come spring.

Commitment to further drainage works is essential. It will make the course more playable and will allow us to expand the above approach to more greens. Furthermore, it will enable us to better access the course and carry out more general maintenance tasks throughout the winter whilst also keeping the impact of winter play to a manageable level.

Upcoming Works
Mid-Winters focus will be on completing the drainage works we started in late Autumn.
- 1st Green. New drainage system intercepting previously installed drain lines that have become ineffectual.
- 3rd Fairway Bunker. New carrier drain to ditch across fairway.
- New 8th Approach. Additional drainage through wet areas and intercepting previously installed drain lines.
Spoils from all works will be used to shape the mounding on the New 8th Green Project.

Late Winter through to early Spring will see our focus shift to general works associated with the course preparation for the upcoming season.
- Greens and Collars will undergo aeration works, over-seeding & top dressing.
- Tees will be solid tined, top dressed and fertilised.
- Bunkers will be topped up with sand where appropriate and edges will be renovated.
- The 11th Tee & some of the works on the New 8th Green Project will be shaped and turfed.
- Further amendments and enhancements will be made to our irrigation system.
- Our general spraying programmes will be continued.

Getting the timing right for these works is imperative and based largely on weather patterns. Positive works poorly timed can have a detrimental impact on the condition of the course. Given our microclimate, fewer high-impact inputs will generate better and more sustainable results.

Moving Forward
Our next update will be immediately before the start of the season and will be a likeness to this. We will include an insight into our planned Summer practices and a comprehensive plan of works for the Autumn of 2026.

We hope the above helps to keep you updated and informed about the course. If you have any questions regarding the course and/or our practices, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
